Summary
Medical equipment is complicated. Smaller hospitals and clinics need training to use the equipment effectively. Critical equipment needs continuous support to remain working in the years following delivery. Training and support is exactly what the EWH alliance can provide.
Why should this be supported.
Good for EWH:
Expand EWH’s efforts to additional countries and to additional clinics and hospitals within countries already served by EWH.
Good for USAID:
Equipment would be delivered with appropriate training in every case
Equipment would be supported for many years, instead of working for a short period of time or never at all
EWH would investigate, provide, and if necessary design, non-disposable alternatives for disposable necessities.
USAID maintains control of the selection of hospitals and equipment.
